Under the Stars Milonga with TDJ Stamatis Katharopoulos
Stamatis Katharopoulos started as a tango dancer in 2004. In 2006, he began teaching and organizing his first milongas, where he took his initial steps as a Tango DJ. Both as a dancer and a teacher, he always emphasized the importance of musicality, which eventually inspired him to venture into the world of Tango DJing, developing a distinctive personal style in his musical choices. Deeply attuned to the rhythms of the ballroom and fueled by his extensive experience as a dancer, he curates customized selections for each milonga, aiming to captivate the dancers.
In every tanda, he strives to strike a harmonious balance between vigor and gentleness, melody and rhythm. His motto is that every era of tango music, spanning from the 1920s to the present day, deserves to showcase masterpieces from every orchestra. Driven by a passion for tangos from the 1930s to the 1950s, as well as contemporary orchestras in recent years, he excels in creating an immersive atmosphere brimming with energy.
He has enriched his skills by attending seminars led by renowned masters such as Mariano Chicho Frumboli, Gustavo Naveira, and Miguel Angel Zotto, as well as esteemed DJs like Super Sabino, Marcelo Rojas, and others. Moreover, he has taken charge of organizing numerous significant international tango events, including the 1st and 2nd Thessaloniki Tango Fest, Chalkidiki Tango Marathon, and Tangueros Tango Marathon, in addition to various local gatherings.
Having performed at numerous local milongas in Thessaloniki, as well as in various cities throughout Greece, he has also showcased his talent at international events and festivals in Italy, Russia, Germany, Serbia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
